Sara Jane, "Sally" Elk, the president & CEO of the Eastern State Penitentiary historic site addressed the Rotary Club of Jenkintown on October 24, 2017. Sally is an organizing member of the Task Force of 1998
who directed the city to preserve this magnificent structure. She worked with the Philadelphia Historical Commission and has contributed to the preservation and development of the penitentiary as a cultural site since the beginning of the project. She was selected as the Executive Director in 1999.
Today, as a tourist destination, the site attracts over 330,000 visitors annually to the daytime tour program and the fall (Halloween) fundraiser, "Terror Behind the Walls". The 11 acre site remains a stabilized ruin.
